Liberals secure West Beach Road upgrade

The State Liberals have described the Federal Government’s $2.8 million West Beach Road upgrade announcement as a win for the local community.

The upgrade announced today will include the building of a divided road with protected turning lanes, on-road cycle lanes, and drainage, landscaping and footpath improvements. “This is an important infrastructure upgrade for the thousands of locals who frequent West Beach Road,” said Shadow Minister for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure David Pisoni.

“This upgrade will not only make West Beach Road safer for motorists and pedestrians, but it’s also great news for the local businesses and sporting clubs in the area.

“With over 5,000 vehicles using this road every day, this upgrade is long overdue. “It’s extremely disappointing that the Weatherill Government didn’t see this as a priority and failed toinvest in this important infrastructure upgrade despite complete plans being released back in 2013.”

Liberal Candidate for Colton Matt Cowdrey who has been lobbying the Federal Government for this important infrastructure upgrade said it would not only benefit West Beach residents but also residents in the broader community.

“There are a lot of residents from all over the western suburbs who frequent West Beach Road to either use the beach, visit our local cafes or access one of our sporting clubs,” said Liberal Candidate for Colton Matt Cowdrey.

“The local community has been calling for this upgrade for some time and since becoming the Liberal
Candidate for Colton I have been lobbying the Federal Government to ensure this project is delivered as soon as possible for our residents.

“The West Beach Road upgrade will benefit our local sporting clubs, the surf lifesaving club, our local cafes and restaurants and anyone else who uses West Beach Road to get to our beach or Airport.”

The Federal Government has committed $1.89 million through the Roads to Recovery program with the remainder of funding to be provided by local government.
