The State Liberals have warned voters not to believe the Weatherill Labor Government’s latest promise to extend the tram network into Norwood.
“Announcing extensions of the tram network before an election and dropping them after the election is a parlor game Labor plays with the electorate,” said Shadow Minister for Transport David Pisoni.
“Before the 2014 state election the Weatherill Labor Government ran taxpayer funded political advertising promising PortLink, EastLink, WestLink, ProspectLink, UnleyLink and CityLink as part of a 30-year transport plan.
“In the four years since the Labor Government snuck back into power they have delivered a one kilometre extension down North Terrace that isn’t even finished and doesn’t include a right hand turn onto North Terrace.
“As a consequence of the North Terrace tram planning blunder a future Government is facing a $40 million bill to rectify Labor’s failure.
“At the Weatherill Government’s rate of progress during the last four years its promised 90 kilometre extension of the Adelaide tram network will take 360 years!
“The State Labor Government has no credibility regarding promises made during election campaigns.
“The electrification of the Gawler line saga characterises how Labor operates - first promised in 2008, dumped by Jay Weatherill in 2012, promised again before the last state election, dumped after that election and now promised again with a massive cost blow out, just before the election.
“Labor has lost the right to be taken seriously when it pledges big ticket items during this election
campaign.”
