The State Liberals have dismissed the Labor Party’s promised $2 billion investment in port, road and rail infrastructure as yet another cynical election ploy from a tired, arrogant Government that should be judged on its failed record.
“The Government that couldn’t afford a right-hand turn for trams turning from King William Street into North Terrace now expects South Australians to believe it will deliver a $2 billion infrastructure investment,” said Shadow Minister for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure David Pisoni.
“As a consequence of the North Terrace tram planning blunder a future Government is facing a $40 million bill to rectify Labor’s failure.
“Before the last election Labor promised an AdeLINK tram loop between Morphett, Sturt, Halifax and Frome streets with major lines running to Prospect, Port Adelaide, West Lakes, Henley and Mitcham.
“It’s yet to complete a 1 kilometre extension down North Terrace.
“The State Labor Government has no credibility regarding promises made during election campaigns.
“Yesterday the Premier re-announced a deep-sea port has been promised repeatedly during the 16 years Labor have been in office. This latest promise will go the same way of previous commitments if Jay Weatherill sneaks back into office courtesy of Nick Xenophon.
“In 2002 the Rann Government promised an interconnector with New South Wales – it will be left to a Marshall Liberal Government to deliver that promise.
“The electrification of the Gawler line saga characterises how Labor operates--first promised in 2008, dumped by Jay Weatherill in 2012, promised again before the last state election dumped after that election and now promised again with a massive cost blow out yes, just before the election
“Before the last election Labor promised an oil and gas hub at Gillman that would create 6000 jobs.
“What we got was a failed project and an ICAC investigation that uncovered maladministration.
“Labor has lost the right to be taken seriously when it pledges big ticket items during this election campaign.”
